Freestone District Park

Freestone District Park is Gilbert’s first significant district park, spanning 88 developed and 32 undeveloped acres. It features a recreation center, multiple athletic fields, a skate park, playgrounds, a fishing lake, an amphitheater, and green spaces. This is a great post to read.

The park was initially opened in 1988 and has continued to expand over time, with an additional 32 acres of land remaining undeveloped. The park also hosts “The Freestone Railroad” which features a miniature train, antique carousel, and mini Ferris wheel.

The city continues to update the facility, adding Rip City Batting cages in 1992 and a courtside ramada in 1996. Further construction in 2001 included the tennis courts and skate park, and the park underwent significant improvements in 2013, including new ballfield lights and a playground structure with shade.

Picnics can be enjoyed in six shaded picnic areas, seven open picnic areas, and 3 reservable ramadas. The picnic areas also have tables and barbecue grills available for use.

Miniature Train

If your kids love trains, they’ll adore this park. You’ll find miniature trains to ride around and a mini Ferris wheel.

The merry-go-round is fun and there’s also a train museum. It’s a very affordable place and a good way to spend an afternoon.

I had the chance to visit this amazing place while on vacation with my kids and they loved it! We bought a ticket to the train and the merry-go-round.
